Mayor Emerita Mary Elizabeth Wilson, the first black female mayor of Decatur, sums up her attitude about Senior care this way, “Seniors want to be independent. We have to live on our income. We aren’t asking anyone to exempt us from paying, but they need to be fair. And, we need to be included in all the planning, especially affordable housing and healthy food. We will continue to make our voices heard on all of those issues.” Respecting the dignity of seniors was always a prime concern for her.
